Latin Gospel Manuscripts

This page complements the sister table on this website of Manuscripts of the Old Latin Bible.

The most complete study to date on Latin Gospel Manuscripts has been the collation of over 460 manuscripts in four test-passages in each Gospel by Bonifatius Fischer. These have been published as:

Bonifatius Fischer, Die lateinischen Evangelien bis zum 10. Jahrhundert
      I. Varianten zu Matthäus (Aus der Geschichte der lateinischen Bibel 13). Freiburg; Herder 1988
II. Varianten zu Markus (Aus der Geschichte der lateinischen Bibel 15). Freiburg; Herder 1989
III. Varianten zu Lukas (Aus der Geschichte der lateinischen Bibel 17). Freiburg; Herder 1990
IV. Varianten zu Johannes (Aus der Geschichte der lateinischen Bibel 18). Freiburg; Herder 1991

Fischer gives each manuscript a two-letter siglum. In most cases, these are based on the type of script used in the manuscript and not the text-type of its contents.
At some point, I hope to add a list of the 26 groups to which the initial capital letter refers. For the time being, information about individual manuscripts is presented in the table below in alphabetical order.
